Mahabharata characters

Who is Dushasana?

The second Kaurava, who dragged Draupadi into the dice hall.

Also known as Duhshasana.

The loyal brother

Dushasana was the second of the hundred Kaurava brothers and Duryodhana’s closest follower. Where Duryodhana led, Dushasana went, usually a step further.

The dice hall

After Yudhishthira had lost Draupadi in the game of dice, Duryodhana sent for her. She refused to come. So Dushasana went to her rooms, seized her by her hair, and dragged her into the hall in front of the whole court. Then he tried to pull away her clothing, and failed, as the cloth kept coming.

It is the moment that made the war certain. Draupadi swore she would not tie her hair again until it was washed in Dushasana’s blood. Bhima swore to drink it.

How Dushasana’s story ends (spoilers)

In the war, Bhima found Dushasana on the battlefield, threw him from his chariot and killed him, keeping his oath in a scene so fierce that even the warriors around them turned away. Draupadi’s vow was fulfilled at last.
